Mission & Beliefs

Our Mission

Love

The Bible calls us to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our Happy Valley neighbors as ourselves. However, we know it is very hard to do that on our own, so we live that out together. Jesus himself loves personally and perfectly; our desire is to be a reflection of Him here in State College!

Follow

Often, when people asked Jesus questions, He would simply invite them to follow Him. To go where He went, to do what He did, and to walk with Him in a relationship. Jesus understands that our faith isn’t just a set of beliefs bound up in our minds but something that is lived out in our everyday lives. We follow Him, trusting in his steadfast and faithful character, believing He will continue to walk with us.

Seek

We see in the scriptures that Jesus seeks to bring all people to himself regardless of who we are, where we come from, or anything we’ve done. We strive to emulate the example of Jesus and intentionally seek out those that He pursues. We join in the redemptive work of God’s Kingdom here in Happy Valley, as a community that is empowered by the Holy Spirit and is dedicated to proclaiming the gospel is actually good news for everyone.

Serve

Love, follow, and seek are not just intellectual concepts – they come alive when we serve. We get to be the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting the tangible needs of the people in our dorms, neighborhoods, work spaces, and on the campus of PSU.

Our Beliefs

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.

Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come.

Amen.

*Lowercase “c” catholic refers to the wholeness of the entire church across all time and geographic distances rather than to any specific branch of Christianity.
